This day-long intensive workshop has three parts
1) What to Expect Before the Last Breath -- active dying with a natural death
2) How to Carry Out a Home Funeral
3) Final Disposition: Is a Home Burial Possible?
Participants will learn how to implement a home funeral with various death situations (natural death at-home, expected death in facilities, sudden/unexpected death and other complicated situations). This workshop will explore: what to expect right before and after the last breath; care of the body --bathing and dressing, how to move the body, casketing/shrouding, use of cooling agents; what you need to have on hand; what the family/community is responsible for; and how to integrate ceremony into the experience. We will also look at an abbreviated fare-thee-welll ceremony for those unable to have a full home funeral. The legalities and info on how to have a home burial will be touched upon.
Learn from death midwife and home funeral guide, Angela Franklin of Journey Home (previously Crossroads Community DeathCare). This workshop is interactive-- please be prepared for hands-on demonstrations and exploration into our death and after-death experiences. Please bring a lunch for yourself, some snacks will be provided.
Suggested donation $40-80, no one turned away for lack of funds.
